The annual St Patrick’s Day Parade in Ardara takes place today, Friday, and a big crowd is expected.
The parade is traditionally held the day before or after St Patrick’s Day and always generates big interest.
The organisers are delighted that the parade is back following a two year absence due to Covid restrictions.
“There’s been a lot of interest in the floats and there has been a big entry. We’re really looking forward to it,” a spokesperson said.
The Grand Marshall for the parade will be local man John Cassidy. Well known in the local community for his work on FAS schemes, he clocks up the miles every day as he walks around the town collecting rubbish and ensuring the place is tidy.
As one local person put it: “He always goes over and above the call of duty.”
He will certainly be a popular choice to be Grand Marshall.
The parade is due to start at 3.30 pm and with all the floats and marching bands promises to be a great occasion.
There will be a bucket collection for the people of Ukraine at the parade.
Meanwhile, the Ardara Walking Festival takes place this weekend and preparations are well underway at present. Some excellent walks have been identified by the organiser Kevin Maguire. For up to date information on the walking festival contact 087 6734875.
