Colleagues and INTO members pay tribute to former Letterkenny teachers
Two retired primary school deputy principals from Letterkenny were honoured by the Irish National Teachers Organisation (INTO) at a function in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Letterkenny recently.
Assumpta Donaghy and Doreen Sheridan Kennedy in the company of their staff, family, and friends were joined by John Boyle, INTO general secretary who made presentations to them for their services to their union and the teaching profession.
Organised by a local branch of the INTO, under the stewardship of Rory Reynolds and Odhran McGowen and a local committee, refreshments, and a champagne reception greeted the two retirees Assumpta and Doreen who had taught in Scoil Colmcille, Letterkenny, and Scoil Naomh Fiachre Letterkenny, for their teaching careers.
National committee and district members who joined the party included Luke Killcoyne, Anrai Chivers, Sarah Ann McClafferty, and local central executive member, Aine McGinley.
Presentations of gifts and flowers were presented to the ladies and after an address by the general secretary both teachers spoke of their journeys in teaching and their association with the INTO at local, district, and national levels.
The organisers wish to say a huge thanks to all who attended this function which was originally postponed due to Covid restrictions. A great night was had by all and continued to the small hours of the morning.
