Letterkenny University Hospital: Some 39 patients were waiting for a bed on Tuesday
The Health Service Executive has warned of long waiting times at the emergency department at Letterkenny University Hospital.
Hospital management said the emergency department has been extremely busy over the past few days with high numbers of patients presenting for treatment.
On Monday, 152 people attended the emergency department. On Tuesday there were 28 patients on trolleys in the emergency department with a further 11 facing very long wait times in the respiratory receiving unit.
Management said the hospital continues to be impacted by Covid-19 with 10 patients being treated in the hospital for the disease at 8am on Tuesday.
“All available beds are in use. Every effort is being made to discharge patients who are ready to go home so that beds will become available for patients who need to be admitted, at the earliest opportunity,” the Saolta University Health Care Group said in a statement.
Anyone with a health problem that is not an emergency is asked to contact their GP during normal surgery hours or the Nowdoc GP out of hours service.
