Proposals will create jobs too

€4 million developed mooted for Ardara

St Shanaghan House in Ardara

A proposal to develop a €4 million unit adjacent to St Shanaghan House in Ardara is being planned by the Ardara Sheltered Housing Association CLG.

This will provide approximately 18 apartments with carers employed to provide care 24 hours per day and if everything goes to plan, approximately 20 to 25 care jobs should be created.

Teague McFadden, the residential services manager at St Shanaghan House said they had been working on this proposal for a number of years.

"This will not be a nursing unit but will provide for people who have very high care needs beyond that which home helps would normally provide.

"The staff will provide planned inputs throughout the day and night as well as be available to respond to both emergencies and opportunities.

"We have met with all six councillors of the Glenties Municipal District and the local housing manager who have given their support for the initiative and look at our land needs."

He says they have also engaged with the Housing Agency which is part of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, to assist and manage the whole process, including funding and they also expect to meet with their architects and surveyors soon.

"We are about to commence a targeted consultation process to both inform and most importantly listen to the wider community. The key to this whole process will be engaging with the current residents of St Shanaghan House.

Mr McFadden has been asked to arrange a presentation over the coming weeks to both inform of the proposal and to listen to and involve all relevant parties.
