Former Bundoran Town Councillor Arthur Rafferty has died unexpectedly in hospital

Cllr Michael McMahon (Sinn Féin) is leading the tributes to former Bundoran Town Councillor and party colleague, Arthur Rafferty.

Mr Rafferty died unexpectedly in the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen.

Cllr McMahon said: "I am shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Arthur Rafferty, Westend, Bundoran; a Sinn Féin colleague and a former member of Bundoran Town Council.

"Déanann muid combhhrón le teaghlach agus cairde Arthur, fud fad na hÉireann."

The Councillor told DonegalLive.ie: "He was a successful and capable businessman who came to Bundoran from County Tyrone about 25 years ago. 

"He bought the Fishing Lodge caravan site. He then sold that and bought the Bird's Nest bar which he later sold and rented back. 

"He was a decent, honest and very good natured man and a long time member of the Sinn Féin party in Tyrone in Donegal.

"His death has come as a terrible shock.

"My deepest condolences to Arthur's wife and his sons, daughters and grandchildren."

Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced. 

Tributes being paid on social media include: 

"Very sad to hear about big Arthur, always very welcoming to me and colleagues when we worked in the Allingham. Condolences to all his family and friends may he rest in eternal peace."

"My sincerest condolences to all of Arthur's friends family and comrades. RIP a chara"

"Arthur was such a good person, sad news, rest in peace."

"Very sad news, Arthur was a gentleman. Rest in peace."
