The N56 through Creeslough has reopened following six-week closure

The N56 through Creeslough has reopened this afternoon having been closed for six weeks.

An Garda Síochána have confirmed they have now concluded their forensic examination of the scene of the fatal occurrence on October 7. The overall investigation into the cause of this occurrence is ongoing. They were assisted by the Health and Safety Authority and the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities. 

Since 12:30pm from today, Thursday, the road traffic diversions previously in place around the scene have been removed.

“An Garda Síochána would like to thank the community for their assistance and cooperation during the period of scene examination,” a Garda spokesperson told DonegalLive. “Our thoughts continue to be with the families of the deceased, and all those injured and affected by this occurrence.

Tragedy struck last month in Creeslough when there was an explosion at the local service station, where 10 people lost their lives, and a High Court order on October 27 was put in place to preserve the scene for a month.

An Garda Síochána confirmed in late October that over 500 lines of enquiry have been actioned, with house to house enquiries then at an advanced stage, with 260 statements taken. 

Leona Harper, Robert Garwe and his daughter Shauna Flanagan Garwe, Jessica Gallagher, James O'Flaherty, Martina Martin, Hugh Kelly, Catherine O'Donnell with her son James Monaghan and Martin McGill all died in the explosion.
