Gardaí are investigating an aggravated burglary in which a vehicle and cash were taken from a home in the Bridgend area.

The incident took place on Thursday at around 7.15pm and the vehicle was recovered in Derry later.

Buncrana gardaí are investigating the incident and are appealing for information.

On Wednesday, gardaí from Buncrana, including armed detectives, mounted a number of checkpoints in the Muff and Bridgend areas following an increase in burglaries in border areas of Donegal in recent weeks.

Gardaí believe a Derry-based gang may be responsible and officers have been liaising with the PSNI in Derry.

Burglaries have been carried out in the Muff, Lifford, Raphoe, Carrigans, and Newtowncunningham areas. In some cases, the homes were ransacked and cash, jewellery and electronic items have been taken.

A Garda spokesman told Donegal Live gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Bridgend area between 6.30pm and 8pm on Thursday who witnessed the incident or who may have video or dashcam footage to come forward.

“An Garda Síochána is liaising with our colleagues in the PSNI and investigations are ongoing,” the spokesman said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Buncrana Garda station at (074) 932 0547, the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
