A new book covering the history of Donegal County Council is now available.

The book entitled, A History of Donegal County Council 1898-2019 by Gaoth Dobhair man Vincent Breslin was officially officially launched during this afternoon's county council meeting in Lifford.

It contains over 330 pages and is divided into six 20-year sections covering such topics as the Grand Jury System, the Local Government (Ireland) Act 1898, the selection, election and the inaugural council meeting in 1899.

Each section includes a brief summary of council minutes, nominations and election results up to and including 2019.

The book's appendix covers such topics as the County Donegal VEC/ETB, the Cultural Services, lists of cathaoirligh and leas chathaoirligh, councillors who died in service and co-options, councillors who served and are serving as Oireachtas members.

A copy of the original council minutes of the first council meeting is appendixed and photos of all chairperson 1899-2021; staff members and presentations to worthy recipients are included.

The book will be on sale in all bookshops throughout the county.
