The cathaoirleach of the Inishowen Municipal District has pleaded with defective concrete block protesters not to disrespect staff, customers or the building in Carndonagh when they protested there on Thursday.
Earlier today Paddy Diver of the 100% Redress No Less called for homeowners affected by defective concrete blocks and their supporters to stage a sit-down occupation of Donegal County Council’s office in Carndonagh at 12 noon that day.
The issue was raised at the end of this afternoon's three-hour-long Inishowen Municipal District meeting in the very building in Carndonagh that the protesters intend to occupy.
During the meeting itself, several councillors raised queries and expressed their concerns about the slow movement of progress in relation to the needs of the various householders affected by the situation.
Cathaoirleach Cllr Paul Canning pleaded with the organisers of Thursday's protest to respect the council staff, customers and the building.
He said he wanted to ensure the safety of the staff working within the Carndonagh council office.
"I would ask and plead with the organisers of the protest that is planned for Thursday of this week that they show courtesy and respect to everyone that works within the council building and any other person that is using the building and that they have a peaceful protest."
He added he would not be there because he was part of a delegation that is going to meet with officials from Transport Infrastructure Ireland in Dublin that day.
