The iconic Rathmullan Abbey, just one of the projects the local development group want to preserve
An appeal has gone out to the residents of Rathmullan and anyone interested in the wider area to help boost regeneration plans for several iconic sites in the town.
The local development group known as Rathmullan - The Way Forward is encouraging people to make positive submissions for these projects.
In an e-mail shot this morning they outline their case for action.
"As a resident of Rathmullan or with interests in the village and wider area we have an important request to make. You may already be aware that Donegal County Council (DCC) in partnership with Rathmullan The Way Forward (RTWF) has now submitted the application for Part 8 planning for the regeneration of the Abbey, Battery and Pier Hotel sites.
"The submission on November 24 opens up a statutory period of consultation with plans available for viewing in Public Service Centres or online until January 3, 2023 and open for comments until January 18, 2023. We would request your support in reviewing these plans and sending your feedback.
"It is vital for the success of the project that the planning department receive your feedback on the proposed designs. In particular, it is important that if you are in favour of the development you send your positive comments to the email address or postal address highlighted below."
The group adds comments can be submitted by email to: regeneration@donegalcoco.ie or in writing to Rathmullan (Community and Heritage) Regeneration Project, The Co. Secretariat, Donegal County Council, Lifford, County Donegal.
They have also attached a link to the architect design report which gives an overview of what is proposed: https://www.donegalcoco.ie/services/planning/publicconsultation/rathmullancommheritageregprojectpart8/#d.en.32915
It also contains interesting information on both the Historic and Current context of the regeneration.
Their email adds:
"If planning is granted your positive comments will be included in our funding application and your response will show community support, adding considerable strength to our request for funds to develop the project.
"We are grateful to all of you who have already responded and indicated their support for the development."
