The mobile home that was placed on Castlegoland Beach, Clooney, Portnoo on Tuesday
The ongoing dispute over a right of way at a west Donegal beach took a new twist yesterday Tuesday when a mobile home was placed on Castlegoland Beach, Clooney, Portnoo.
According to the Save Our Beach at Castlegoland campaign, this was done as a protest and part of the campaign for the restoration of the public vehicular access right of way to the beach.
A spokesperson for the group said the public has been denied access to the beach because of a locked gate which they claim is unlawfully obstructing the public right of way.
"For more than three years, Donegal County Council has taken no meaningful action in respect of this. Castlegoland Beach is a wonderful, much-valued amenity for the local community, and for visitors and tourists alike.
"The placement of the caravan is a statement that the beach belongs to us all, and we are determined to see that full and free public access to the beach is restored.
The group has called on the council to act immediately to ensure that all public rights of way to Castlegoland Beach are fully and permanently restored.
