Cara House calls for Letterkenny 'Befrienders'

The resource centre’s Befriending Service aims to combat loneliness and isolation
Letterkenny’s Cara House has made an appeal for volunteers to take part in their Befriending Service.
The service is a free community program designed to combat loneliness and social isolation among older and vulnerable adults over the age of 65.
The community-based resource centre located in the centre of the town says they are experiencing a growing demand for the service.
A spokesperson for Cara House said: “ Our service provides regular home visits, companionship and meaningful social connection to older people who may be experiencing loneliness or social isolation.
“Our commitment is to ensure that befriending support is provided in a timely manner, as and when our participants need it. To continue meeting this commitment, we urgently need more volunteers to join our wonderful team of befrienders. Even a small amount of your time can make a lasting difference to someone who may otherwise feel alone.”
The centre is looking for volunteers who are friendly, kind, and reliable, who have their own mode of transport, and have good English communication skills.
If you are interested in becoming a befriender, contact the centre's Active Age Coordinator, Katie, by calling 083 863 8315 or emailing [email protected].
