Letterkenny Specsavers celebrate 25 years in business
The branch in Letterkenny thanks its Donegal customers
Specsavers Letterkenny is proudly celebrating 25 years of providing dedicated eye and hearing care to Letterkenny and the wider Donegal area.
To mark this milestone, the store is hosting a special anniversary celebration for customers and the local community, featuring a coffee morning, ‘wheel of fortune’ customer discounts, and dedicated audiology open days.
Since opening 25 years ago, the locally owned and run Specsavers Letterkenny has expanded to become the largest optical and audiology store in the North-West of Ireland. Following a full store refit 18 months ago, the state-of-the-art facility now has five optical testing rooms equipped with advanced 3D Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scanning and a soundproofed audiology unit with two clinical rooms and a team of nearly 40.
The store takes great pride in nurturing homegrown talent. The leadership team is led by optometrist Partner John Fleming, who began as a local weekend assistant in the mid-2000s, and Retail and Dispensing Partner Lisa Mhic Eó, who joined Specsavers in 2001.
Together, they succeeded founding partners Paul O'Donoghue and Martina McMahon in 2023. Completing the leadership team is Audiology Director Martina Mailey, who is celebrating 20 years with the team after launching the store's dedicated audiology service in 2017.
Working alongside the leadership team is a strong core of long-serving staff, including an optical assistant who has been with the store since it opened 25 years ago. Former student assistants have also returned as resident optometrists and dispensing opticians, serving their local community.
Specsavers Letterkenny actively supports local and international causes, such as the Hope Foundation, Include Youth Donegal, Donegal Hospice, and the Neonatal Unit at Letterkenny University Hospital. The store sponsors numerous sports teams and cultural initiatives across Donegal, including St. Eunan’s Gaelic Football team, Cappry Rovers Soccer team, Letterkenny Golf Club, Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club, Loretto College Athletics and Cumann Sacair Gaeilge.
Reflecting on the milestone, optometrist director John Fleming said, "A huge thank you to all our customers in Letterkenny and the wider Donegal community who have trusted us with their eye and hearing health over the past 25 years.
