€35m boost for road projects in Donegal, including Fintra Bridge area

Expenditure on regional and local roads in Donegal is set to top €35million this year.

The investment will target a number of significant projects around the county.

Commenting on the confirmation of the funding, Cllr. Michèal Naughton said the funding for Donegal was one of the highest allocations of any county.

Cllr Naughton said: “In my own MD in the Donegal area, I would like to welcome the €230,000 for the Laghey to Pettigo road and €100,000 for the Glenmore Bridge on the Pettigo Road.. This allocation is under the specific improvement grant. I would also like to welcome the €100,000 for the Halls Junction in Kilcar and the €500,000 for the Fintra Bridge and road realignment.”

He continued: “The Halls Junction and the Fintra Bridge are two major projects to improve access to our main tourist attraction in south Donegal, Slieve League and will benefit not only visitors but the local people in the area and commuters all the way from Glencolmcille.

Under the safety improvement work, he welcomed the €30,000 for work on the Ballydevitt crossroads.

“This has been an accident blackspot over the last number of years and something I have been lobbying for since I became a councillor,” he stated.

He concluded: “I believe this funding will contribute greatly to the safety and improvement of our road network and will benefit our tourism product and visitors to the county.”
