The late Jessica McLoughlin and her niece, Rebecca McLoughlin
A WOMAN who was injured in a tragic train accident in Sligo has shared a tribute for her aunt, who was killed in the same accident.
From her hospital bed, Rebecca McLoughlin, who was injured in the tragic accident, paid a tribute to her aunt, Jessica McLoughlin from Sligo town.
“I’ll not forget what I promised you, I’ll not take back my word. I’m in bits here Jess, why oh why did this have to happen,’ Rebecca wrote in a heart-wrenching tribute on social media.
“I’ll never forget what you said to me I’ll cherish that memory for a song as I live and will never forget you. We were 2 peas in a pod, more like sisters, partners in crime more like. I promise you I’ll do you proud, I’ll never forget you beautiful, fly high Jess and I’ll not let your kids ever forget about you,” added Rebecca.
It is understood the two women had been walking close to the train line when the train approached. 40-year-old Jessica McLoughlin was pronounced dead at the scene, and her niece, Rebecca, was taken to Sligo University Hospital after sustaining serious injuries.
Three separate investigations are under way into the death of Jessica McLoughlin to determine what led to the fatal accident.
