National: Teenage boy arrested as woman is killed in disturbing Offaly attack posted online

A teenage boy has been arrested following the violent death of a woman at a house in rural Co Offaly on Friday.

Gardaí rushed to the scene of what they have described as "a violent incident" on the outskirts of Tullamore. It's understood a woman was killed violently with a weapon with images of the incident circulating online.

In a statement, gardaí confirmed they are "currently at the scene of a violent incident at a residential property in a rural area outside of Tullamore, Co. Offaly."

They have said a male has been arrested but that "no further details are being provided at this time." It's understood the male is a teenager and is known to the woman.

"Investigations are at an early stage and An Garda Síochána will not be providing any further details at this time," they added.

"An Garda Síochána is aware that images from this incident are circulating on social media and messaging apps and An Garda Síochána is appealing to any person who receives these images not to share the content."
