National: Christmas Day comes early for students across Ireland

STUDENTS across Ireland have kicked off their Christmas celebrations with just over five weeks remaining before December 25.

A number of Christmas Day events are due to take place across the country this week with students in Limerick starting things off.

The city was a sea of green and red this Wednesday as students enjoyed what has become an annual Christmas Day out.

Third level students started the tradition a number of years ago of dressing up in their finest festive outfits and hitting the town.

They started the fun early with groups of university students in Christmas jumpers seen as early as 8am queueing for Limerick hostelries.
