Weather expert hints at White Christmas for Ireland as Met Éireann gives verdict
A white Christmas is looking like a possibility with a cold snap predicted for Christmas Day.
Carlow Weather has predicted a "little dusting on Christmas Eve" and states a "nice dry Christmas day would be perfect".
Long range forecasts tentatively show snow arriving on December 23 with widespread wintry shows continuing until December 26.
Temperatures are forecast to rise over the coming days, but Met Eireann has warned it won’t last as a series of cold snaps are on the way ahead of Christmas.
Met Éireann forecasts for it to be breezy today with outbreaks of rain across much of Connacht, west Ulster and west Munster, heavy at times, especially across west Connacht with possible flooding.
It'll be drier elsewhere until later on with just a little patchy drizzle and the chance of a few brighter spells. Very mild again with highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees. Fresh to strong and gusty southwest winds, decreasing a little later.
GFS 6z just out and it really wants to bring a cold snap to Christmas Day. The ECMWF ensembles do show plenty of cold options too. A little dusting on Christmas Eve followed by nice dry crisp Christmas Day would be perfect but we may wait & see. Will update this thread as we go. pic.twitter.com/OGP6NjmHN9
