A driver with a 'dangerously worn' tyre was issued a fine and two penalty points by gardaí at a checkpoint.

The Naas roads policing unit were stopping cars at a checkpoint in Sallins, Co Kildare when they came across a driver whose tyre was extremely worn.

Gardaí grounded the vehicle until a replacement tyre was fitted. The driver was fined €80 and given two penalty points.

Critics have said that the punishment wasn't harsh enough, with one user on X (formerly Twitter) commenting: "That is a very lenient punishment for having such a dangerous vehicle on the road."
