RIP: Elderly cyclist dead after morning collision with car in Dublin City Centre

An elderly cyclist has died following a collision with a car in Dublin City Centre. 

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fatal road traffic collision on Dame Street, Dublin 2 this morning (Saturday May 18) at approximately 5.25am.

The cyclist who was aged in his 70s was seriously injured during the collision and passed away after being taken to St James' Hospital. 

The driver of the car is currently receiving medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. 

Dame Street was closed this morning to facilitate a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

The road has since reopened. 

Gardaí in Pearse Street are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. 

Any road users or pedestrians who were in the vicinity of Dame Street this morning between 5.00am and 5.45am, and who may also have camera footage (including dash cam), is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

Anyone with information which may assist Gardaí in their investigation is asked to contact Pearse Street Garda Station on 01 666 9000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
