Gardai make fourth arrest while investigating assault that left man in 'serious condition'

The injured man (aged in his 40s) remains in hospital in a serious condition

Gardaí make their fourth arrest in relation to an investigation of an assault which left one man in serious condition.

The assault occurred on O’Connell Street and Cathal Brugha Street, Dublin 1 in the early hours of Sunday, June 23 2024.

A man in his 20s was arrested this Thursday morning as part of this investigation. He is currently being detained at a Garda Station in Dublin under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. 

The man in his 30s who was arrested on Monday, June 24, 2024 has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The injured man (aged in his 40s) remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Gardaí continue to appeal to any individuals who were in the Cathal Brugha Street area, near the Living Room Bar, between 12:40am and 1:00am and any individuals who were on O’Connell Street Upper near the Spar Shop/Funland/Tourism Office, opposite the Spire, between 12:40am and 1:00am Sunday morning, to contact them.

Anyone who has camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to Gardaí.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

Investigations are ongoing.
