Gardaí have said that the man arrested in Wicklow on Tuesday 15 October in relation to the creation and dissemination of false allegations on social media has been released without charge.
An investigation was launched in June after an image of a migrant man travelling on a bus in Newtownmountkennedy was circulated online, accompanied by claims that he was behaving inappropriately towards a minor.
Gardaí said that on investigation, the allegation was determined to be unfounded and false.
The man, aged in his 40s, was arrested following a search at a residential property in south Wicklow by gardaí from Wicklow North CE Functional Area. Several mobile phones and electronic devices were also seized.
Gardaí say that the man has now been released without charge.
A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
