Everything you need to know about the Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2024

The Dublin Marathon is fast approaching and organisers and Dublin City Council (DCC) have announced that the start and finish location of the Irish Life Dublin Marathon will be in the city centre on Sunday, October 27.

Marathon organisers and DCC have said they have been working together to "develop a feasible solution to make this possible while ensuring minimal disruption to the area over the October bank holiday weekend. 

The Irish Life Marathon will kick off on Leeson Street Lower and finish on Mount Street Upper, remaining within the Dublin 2 area with the route running through the city centre streets.

The route for 2024 will closely follow the 2023 route with minor changes. (Subject to final approval by key statutory bodies), so for now the 2023 is displayed.

Jim Aughney, Race Director, said: “We are thrilled to confirm that the Irish Life Dublin Marathon will be on the streets of Dublin’s City Centre. Running the marathon is a momentous occasion for participants. Being in the heart of the capital city makes that moment even more special for them and their families and friends who come out to support them”.

Dublin City Council CEO Richard Shakespeare said: “We are very proud as a city to host the fifth biggest marathon in Europe in Dublin City. The event brings celebration, vibrancy, and significant social and economic benefits to the city. It is also a substantial operational undertaking that requires careful management.

"Together with the Dublin marathon organisers, we have developed a comprehensive plan that works for everyone.”

The Irish climate is influenced by the prevailing light South-Westerly winds of the Gulf Stream. The average temperatures for October are around 12 – 14°C (53 – 57°F). Dublin has only about 30 inches of rain annually, which is ideal for running.
