A funeral for a beloved Irish-American mother is to be held on Wednesday following her tragic murder, IrishCentral has reported.
Arlene Connolly O'Neill, the Irish-American mother of three, was killed on 16th October by her husband in a murder-suicide at their home in Yonkers, New York.
The 47-year-old was shot multiple times by her 54-year-old husband Sean, a retired NYPD Police Officer, before he turned the weapon on himself in their home, local police said.
Arlene, whose parents were from Co Monaghan and Co Galway, was a popular figure in the tight-knit Irish American community in Yonkers, where she had lived her entire life.
In a GoFundMe for her family, Arlene was described as "a truly remarkable individual" as well as "a fearless mother, thoughtful sister and kind friend".
She is sadly missed by her three sons - Sean (15), Brendan (13), and Nolan (11), who are described as "her greatest pride and joy".
Arlene was a dedicated teacher for over 25 years in the Eastchester School District, a short distance from her hometown Yonkers.
Arlene's friend Marie Milio, who set up the GoFundMe to support the family, said in a heartfelt tribute that the mother of three "exemplified strength, kindness, and resilience".
"She poured her heart into both her classroom and her home, always putting others before herself," Marie added.
"Arlene’s life was tragically taken on October 16, 2024. Her boys will now face the challenge of growing up without their rock, their advocate, and their best friend".
The GoFundMe has raised over $700,000 so far, with thousands of community members leaving tribute messages with their donations.

IrishCentral reported that the 'Go Green for Arlene' campaign, launched by the Ladies Guild at the Annunciation Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Yonkers, is being embraced throughout the community as homes and businesses hang green bows and ribbons in Arlene's memory.
The initiative has earned the backing of the City of Yonkers, as well as numerous local businesses and community groups.
In a further show of support, people on social media are changing their profile pictures to an image of a green heart with 'Arlene' written under it.
