The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) is advising consumers in Ireland who have vouchers for Homebase to use them as soon as possible to avoid being left out of pocket.

Provisional liquidators were appointed to the UK-based parent company of the DIY retailer last month, sparking some concerns for customers in this country.

In a statement the CCPC says it's aware of the concerns and that it is engaging with the liquidators who have confirmed that stores in Ireland will continue to accept gift vouchers during the "provisional liquidation phase" and have committed to honour outstanding orders.

Consumers who have vouchers for Homebase are being advised to use any gift vouchers they have or risk being left out of pocket.

Brian McHugh, chairman of the CCPC, said: "consumer calls and emails to our helpline raised concerns for CCPC consumer protection officers. We contacted Homebase's liquidators late last week to ensure consumers continue to be protected while stores are operating."

The CCPC says it expects customers in Ireland will begin to receive calls from this Monday in respect of any outstanding orders.

To date, the appointment of provisional liquidators in the UK has not had any impact on staff working in the eight Homebase stores in Ireland.
