LIVE: Man due in court over alleged online threats that forced Laois school into lockdown

An adult male has been charged following his arrest in connection with an investigation into online threats that circulated across social media this week.

Gardaí said on Wednesday that they had arrested the male in Abbeyleix, Co Laois, after a local school went into lockdown as a precaution.

Gardaí arrested the male and detained him at a Garda Station in the Eastern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí said there was "no ongoing threat to public safety at this time".

The male is now due to appear before Portlaoise District Court this morning, Thursday, May 29, 2025.

Gardaí say the investigation remains ongoing.
