Gardai say a high-powered car was seized following detection on the M8 in County Cork over the bank holiday weekend
A young driver is facing prosecution and a possible disqualification after they were caught driving at high speed over the bank holiday weekend.
Highlighting the detection on social media, gardai say the motorist was caught travelling almost 100 km/h over the speed limit on one of the busiest roads in the country.
They say the Audi car was clocked travelling at 210 km/h on the M8 motorway near Mitchelstown in North Cork.
The young driver of the vehicle was arrested and the car was seized by the gardaí who have not disclosed publicly exactly what action is to be taken against the driver.

The detection was one of dozens made across the weekend by gardaí who were operating a road traffic enforcement operation across the weekend.
This dedicated enforcement operation began at 7am on Thursday, July 31 and will continue until 7am on Wednesday.
Commenting on social media, a garda spokesperson said: “As part of our Bank Holiday Roads Policing Operation, we’re checking that drivers are sticking to speed limits. Mitchelstown gardaí arrested the young driver of this car along the M8 after he was clocked driving 210 km/h. The car was also seized.”

Separate to the detection on the M8, a number of people died on roads across Ireland across the weekend.
The driver of the e-scooter, a man aged in his 30s, following a road crash at Old Navan Road in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 on Sunday while a man, also aged in his 30s, died following a single-vehicle road crash at Ballina Cross, Annaharvey, Tullamore, Co. Offaly at approximately 11:50pm on Monday.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
