New Donegal Indoor Horse Arena/Equine Academy clears planning hurdle

Indoor horse arena, stables, a classroom, and accommodation block included in application approved by Donegal County Council
Planning for a proposed indoor horse arena and equine academy in East Donegal has been approved by Donegal County Council.
Listed applicant Shauna Boyle, who is based at Drumdoit Stables near the border with County Tyrone, between Castlefinn and Castlederg, successfully submitted an application seeking the development of an equine academy to include the construction of an indoor horse arena building.
Further proposals include stables, a feed room, and office and toilet facilities, the construction of a classroom and an accommodation block, development of a foul effluent system, an internal access road, parking areas, perimeter walking trail and all associated and ancillary site development works.
The new planned indoor arena and stables are proposed for land of over one square kilometre in size.
Drumdoit Stables currently already boasts an outdoor sand arena for horses to practice the sports of dressage and showjumping. Equine therapy sessions have also been available at the premises.
Donegal County Council granted permission for the application with 16 conditions, including a condition imposed that the applicant or permission’s beneficiary should contribute a payment of €16,771.20 in respect of public infrastructure and facilities benefiting development in the area of the Planning Authority that is already provided or is intended to be provided by the Authority.
