Two cars slipped into the River Lennon in separate incidents
Calls have been made for more safety precautions in Ramelton after two cars slipped into the River Lennon in separate incidents.
Rathmullan-based Councillor Pauric McGarvey made the plea for water signage and barriers to be put in place in the quay in the town.
Cllr McGarvey said: “There were two separate incidents of cars entering the water in Ramelton recently. Thankfully, no one was in either of the cars, but we need signage and barriers to prevent a serious accident from occurring.”
Cllr McGarvey put forward the motion at the Letterkenny-Milford MD meeting, which was seconded by Cllr Liam Blaney.

McGarvey said he had spoken with engineers about the matter. The motion was signed by Senior Executive Engineer (Roads), David McIlwaine. It will be discussed between the Rural Regeneration, Flooding Marine and Roads Sections to see if it is feasible and if it is included in any future plans. An assessment also will be carried out regarding appropriate signage.
