One of Donegal's oldest citizens Maggie Maguire passes away in her 107th year

Maggie Maguire from Inver passed away at the age of 106

There is much sadness at the death of Maggie Maguire who at the age of 106 was one of Donegal’s oldest citizens.

Late of Keelogs, Inver, Maggie is predeceased by her husband Michael and her sons John Francis and Edward Joseph. She will be very sadly missed by her son Michael and his wife Nuala of Ardaghey and her daughter Bridget Quigg and husband Pat of Glencolmcille, as well as her seven grandchildren and her six great-grandchildren.

Born in Lignaul on April 7, 1917, Maggie went to school in Legan and spent her young days sprigging and later mending tweed at home for Magee's of Donegal Town.

She met and married her late husband, Michael, on April 24,1947 and they spent 65 years of a happy married life in Keelogs, where they set up home and raised a family of four.

As for the secret of a long life, Maggie says she lived a quiet, plain and simple life, didn’t smoke or drink but loved her bingo, doing the grocery shopping in Mountcharles and going to her local church to pray.

Her family gathered with her on Good Friday to celebrate her 106th birthday.

Maggie’s remains will be reposing at Gallagher’s Funeral Home, Station Road, Mountcharles, on Monday from 5pm until 9pm, and at her late residence in Keelogs, Inver, on Tuesday from 4pm until 9pm.

Funeral Mass takes place on Wednesday in St Naul’s Church, Ardaghey at 12 noon followed by burial in the local cemetery.
