Roisin Flanagan shaved over 13 seconds off her PB to set a new Donegal indoor 3,000m record.

At the Dr. Sander Invitational Columbia Challenge in New York, the Finn Valley AC athlete clocked 8:53.53.

In the women’s 3000m invitational race, Flanagan finished second to American Madison Boreman, who won in 8:50.89.

The Gortin woman’s previous best was the 9:07.10 recorded in New York last March.

On Saturday evening, at The Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory - in a World Athletics Indoor Tour bronze level meeting - Flanagan took 13.17 seconds off her precious mark.

In December, Flanagan broke the Donegal 5k road record when running 15:42.8 at the SugarRun 5k at the Wolf River Nature Area in Germantown, Tennessee.

A month later, Flanagan, alongside her twin sister, Eilish, won a bronze medal with the Irish senior women to team bronze at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Italy.

The Flanagan twins crossed the line in 27:38 to place 11th and 12th respectively.

The United States based sisters are coached by Damon Martin in Colorado.
