Raphoe started well against CIYMS in the Ulster Intermediate League and moved into a two-goal lead and although they failed to build on that, the win was a vital one in the end

Workmanlike performance sees Raphoe move joint-top Ulster Intermediate League

The Raphoe team

Raphoe hoped to carry on from last week's 5-0 win away to Antrim with another win against CIYMS that would see them move to joint top of the Ulster Intermediate League.

Raphoe 2-1 CIYMS

Raphoe started quick with an early penalty corner superbly executed with a reverse shot from Matthew Lecky for a 1-0 lead. Jonny Long then doubled Raphoe’s lead with a brilliant finish, firing a cracking reverse shot into the top corner. 2-0 first quarter.

The second quarter was a more equal affair. Two chances from each team, Macbeth and Lecky having chances saved for Raphoe, while David Moore was alert in the Raphoe goal to deny CIYMS forward. Just before half-time Alan Meehan produced a fantastic goal line clearance to keep the score at 2-0.

A poor third quarter followed from Raphoe, David Moore being called upon again on several occasions to keep the score at 2-0 after poor possession from Raphoe throughout the quarter.

Raphoe’s only chance came from a Simon Goudie drag flick which was well saved.

Another poor quarter followed, Raphoe this time conceding a goal. Raphoe did manage to hang on but won’t be pleased with the second half performance. Raphoe plays Portrush next Saturday.
