Shaun Stewart shares his thoughts on the Kathmandu Coast to Coast in New Zealand on Saturday
Shaun Stewart put in a fantastic performance to finish in 31st place in the Elite category at the Kathmandu Coast to Coast in New Zealand.
Stewart finished the course in a time of 13 hours 52 minutes and two seconds, following on from his fine year in 2022 when he finished up being first home at the Westport Sea to Summit in Mayo in November.
The Creeslough native was part of the Team Donegal Oil in New Zealand, which was made up of Arthur McMahon from Milford, Managing Director Donegal Oil and Founder of Donegal Oil Foundation, Boyd Robinson and Gerard Callaghan from Letterkenny and George Kelly of Downings.
The annual Coast to Coast race, from Kumara to Christchurch, is New Zealand's major multisport event and covers 243km in all. Starting at daybreak at Kumara beach, competitors have to cycle a total of 140 kilometres, run 36 kilometres including a mountain stage across an alpine pass, and kayak 67 kilometres along the Waimakariri River on the Canterbury side.
