Freestyle silver for Mona McSharry at SEC Championships

McSharry, a breaststroke specialist, took 50m freestyle silver in Texas on Wednesday night

Mona McSharry won silver at the 2023 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships in Texas on Wednesday night.

The Marlin’s Swimming Club graduate took the 50m freestyle silver.

McSharry’s 21.74 seconds was the fourth fastest time in University of Tennessee history.

The medal represents the fourth SEC media of McSharry’s career and her first in the freestyle.

Maggie MacNeil grabbed gold in a new NEC record of 20.98 seconds with Kalia Antonio 0.01 seconds behind McSharry for bronze.

Grange woman McSharry, a third year scholarship student at the University of Tennessee, last month set a new Irish 50m breaststroke record of 30.56 seconds while winning three golds at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Knoxville.
