Ballybofey native Eddie Gallen finished second in a grueling 12-hour race last weekend in Spain.

The Finn Valley AC member clocked up 123km over the 12 hours to grab silver.

The race in Valencia was part of the Festival De Ultrafondo and was won by Santiago Trull of the Independente club club.

Trull managed to notch 141km to seal the gold.

Gallen’s distance is a new over 60s group record in a range of categories: the 100km; 50km; six-hour; and 12-hour.

Gallen is now seventh in the IAU all-time world rankings for the 12-hour over-60 category.

From Meenreagh in Ballybofey, Gallen is planning another 12-hour race in Spain at the end of April and will compete at the 24 hour Irish Championships in Belfast in June.
