Cora Rooney has been selected for the European Junior Championships.
Ballyshannon teenager Cora Rooney has joined Mona McSharry in selection for Irish teams for forthcoming championships.
While McSharry’s place at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan has been confirmed, the Olympic finalist will also take part in the 2023 LEN European Under 23 Championships, which will be held in Dublin.
Rooney, a student at Colaiste Cholmcille, has been announced on the Ireland team for the 2023 LEN European Junior Championships in Serbia.
Rooney swims for the Enniskillen Lakelanders and his coached by her mother, Sinead Donagher, at the Finn Valley Leisure Centre.
The European Junior Championships take place in Belgrade from July 4-9.
At the recent inter-provincial schools championships, Rooney won gold in the 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly as well as bagging a pair of relay silvers.
Ballyshannon Marlin’s swimmer McSharry, a student at the University of Tennessee, will line up at the World Championships.
At the recent Irish Open Swimming Championships, broke two Irish records and set three new Championship bests.
McSharry took a clean sweep of the breaststroke gold medals, taking the 50m, 100m and 200m titles.
The European Under-23s will be held at the National Aquatic Centre in August.
