Dylan Browne-McMonagle landed a 28/1 winner at Cork on Friday evening.
The Letterkenny jockey guided Earls to victory in the Mallow Handicap, the big race of Friday’s card.
The Gavin Cromwell-trained Earls was held up in the early stages of the seven-furlong race.
Browne-McMonagle, who was the 2022 Champion Apprentice, bided his time before making a move two furlongs from home. Inside the final furlong, Browne-McMonagle and Earls took over and won by half-a-length from All Lies Ahead, the 7/2 favourite.
“I took my time, there was plenty of pace and he settled well,” Browne-McMonagle said.
“I’ve won on him before and knew he’d handle the ground and that he likes coming through horses. To be honest, it was all very straightforward for me.”
Also in Cork, Luke McAteer from Rathmullan took Young Ireland to victory for Jim Bolger in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C & G) Maiden.
Young Ireland was sent away at 5/2 and won by half-a-length from the Aidan O’Brien-prepared Farnborough, the race’s 7/4 favorite.
