Competing at the Leinster Championships on Sunday, Mahon impressed when leaping out to 14.58m to take the gold in Carlow.

In February, he set a new Donegal indoor record of 14.70m.

It was the second Donegal record to fall at the hands of a Tir Chonaill AC athlete after Fintan Dewhirst clocked 53.68 seconds over the 400m hurdles at at the IFAM International Flanders Athletics Meet in Oordegem, Belgium – qualifying for the European Under-20 Championships as a result.

His younger brother, Ethan, is edging closer to the 55.25 seconds qualifying time for the European Youth Olympic Games. On Sunday, he took victory in the Under-20 400m hurdles when going 56.49 seconds.
