Mark Alcorn in action.
Donegal businessman Ronan Hilferty - owner of Ronhill Bread Distribution LTD and main sponsor of Mark Alcorn Rallying - has brought together a unique event to celebrate the launch of the Wilton Recycling Donegal International Rally, while also raising funds for the Letterkenny Community Childcare facility.
The event - taking place at the St Eunan’s GAA grounds - will feature a live in-person panel discussion with a number of local, national and international rally drivers. The current Letterkenny Community Childcare facility will be demolished shortly due the presence of mica being found in its blockwork.
Ronan explained: My daughter attends the local creche and following the news that it will have to be knocked down and rebuilt, I just felt it was something the rallying community could support to raise funds for and also raise awareness.
“I have always had a great interest in rallying and see the Donegal International Rally as a massive event - it gives such great promotion of our beautiful county. So this pre event will not only preview what’s coming up this time out but the proceeds of it will go towards a very good cause”.
The special guest panel on the night will include the likes of: Mark Alcorn, Damien Tourish, Callum Devine, Donagh Kelly, David Bogie, Melvyn Evans, Andrew Nesbitt, Eugene Donnelly and Malcolm Wilson.
There will be a number of rally cars on display in the O’Donnell Park car park that evening with free ice-cream also available. The action will get under way on Sunday, June 11, at 7pm.
Deputy Manager Michelle Murray of the Letterkenny Community Childcare facility explains that they have now identified a suitable site for their new build and the aim now is to construct a modern facility which meets their exact needs moving forward.
