A team of 14 boxers from Donegal will go to the prestigious competition in Scotland next month, the AGM of the County Donegal Boxing Board heard this week

Donegal boxers to fight at William Wallace Box Cup

A Donegal boxing team will go to the William Wallace Box Cup in Scotland next month.

The annual general meeting of the County Donegal Boxing Board heard on Tuesday night that a team of 14 boxers will go to the tournament.

The William Wallace Box Cup takes place in Stirling and is hosted by the Jonesy's Boxing Club.

Last year, 44 teams took part, including a selection from Derry.

The Donegal County Coach, Gerard Keaveney will lead the group from Donegal with the tournament taking place from July 7-9.

Tuesday's AGM, held at Letterkenny Boxing Club, saw no change to the officer board, which remains: President – Peter O'Donnell; Vice President – James McCarron; Secretary – Mandy Douglas; Treasurer – Fergal McLaughlin; Registrar – David Tennyson; Child Protection Officer – Ray Donaghey; County Coach – Gerard Keaveney.

Ten of the 15 clubs in the county were present at Tuesday's meeting, including the newly-affiliated Derryveagh Boxing Club.

The County Donegal Boxing Board will hold its annual awards in Ballyliffin on September 17 next, it has been confiremd.
