Matthew McCole won his second Haringey Box Cup gold medal at the weekend.

McCole bagged the light-middleweight title at the Alexandra Palace in London.

The Illies Golden Gloves boxer overcame Darragh Gilroy in the final.

Dungloe native McCole took a 4-1 split decision in the final.

McCole was representing the Irish Athletic Third-level Boxing Association (IATBA) with Gilroy in London for Team Ireland.

Southpaw McCole defeated Gabriel Passele from Repton 4-1 in his semi-final having scored a unanimous decision win over Docklands puncher Sean Brennan in his 71kgs opener.

The final win over Gilroy was a repeat of their IATBA final when McCole secured his fourth Irish Colleges title.

ATU Donegal student McCole previously won gold at the Haringey Box Cup – Europe's largest amateur boxing tournament – in 2018. Then, he saw off Alston Ryan of Repton in the 4kgs final.
