Mona McSharry concluded her World Aquatics Championships by helping break another Irish record.
Having secured qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games on her way to the 100m breaststroke final - where she finished fifth - McSharry ended her week in Fukuoka, Japan, on a further positive note.
At the Marine Messe, the Ireland women’s 4x100m medley relay team set a new Irish mark.
McSharry, alongside Danielle Hill, Ellen Walsh and Victoria Catterson finished in 4:01.25.
The quartet lowered their previous Irish record of 4:02.93 and finished 13th in the world.
On Saturday morning, McSharry finished 11th overall in the 50m breaststroke, touching the wall in 30.54 seconds in a semi-final after going through her heat in 30.45 seconds.
McSharry also finished 15th in the 200m breaststroke, finishing her semi-final in 2:26.27 after a 2:26.59 heat.
Last Monday, McSharry booked her tickets to Paris when breaking the Irish 100m breaststroke record.
McSharry went under 1:06 for the first time when winning a heat in 1:05.55. In her semi-final, McSharry swam 1:05.96.
The Grange woman, a graduate of the Ballyshannon-based Marlins Swimming Club, was touching distance from a medal in the 100m breaststroke final. However, McSharry ended in fifth place, what must have been a torturous 0.13 of a second from a medal.
The University of Tennessee student, who reached the 100m breaststroke final and finished eighth at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, has confirmed her status as one of the leading protagonists in her events.
