Maria Kealy and the Ireland Under-20s won their first two games of their European Championships.

Ireland are competing in the ‘B’ Division of the FIBA Under-20 Women’s European Championships and overcame Greece on Friday before defeating Romania, the hosts, on Sunday.

In the 80-74 win over Greece, Kealy helped herself to six points and also weighed in with two defensive rebounds.

In a tense 67-64 win over Romania, Kealy contributed eight points. Her three defensive rebounds were every bit as vital here.

Ireland face Georgia on Wednesday in Isalnita.

Kealy is a Letterkenny Blaze graduate who now plays for Ulster University Tigers, but is set for a move to the United States.

Kealy is to join the Quinnipiac University women's basketball team. She will move to the Bobcats for the 2023-24 campaign and will have four years of eligibility.

At the 2022 FIBA U18 Women’s European Championships, Kealy proved an effective facilitator, contributing 7.4 assists per game to go with 5.4 rebounds and a team high 36-minutes per game.

Letterkenny man Andrew McGeever, also a former Blaze player, is the assistant coach with the Under-20s, working alongside head coach Karl Kilbride.
