Dylan Browne-McMonagle was the leading flat jockey at the 2023 Galway Races.

The Letterkenny jockey hit five winners - including a 155/1 double on Thursday - to land the Pat Smullen Memorial Trophy and a cool €2,000.

The two-time champion apprentice jockey confirmed himself as the leading flat jockey on Sunday when taking Joseph O’Brien’s Stromberg to the Kinlay Hostel Irish EBF Auction Series Maiden. It was his third winner of an excellent week on an O’Brien-prepared mount.

On the 1/5 favourite, Browne-McMonagle held back initially before stirring Stromberg to action. In the end, he had a whopping ten lengths to spare. Stromberg was racing for only the second time having been second at Leopardstown on his debut last month.

“I loved the way he galloped through the line,” Browne-McMonagle said.

“Coming down the hill I didn’t know whether to switch in or come around them but I knew my lad would pick up good and I didn’t want to get into any trouble.”

Having taken Mythology, O’Brien’s 7/4 favourite, to win by over two lengths from 4/1 chance Sea The Polaris on Monday, the Donegal man landed a big-priced double on Thursday.

First, he guided Miramis to victory in the Listed Corrine Fillies Stakes. Aboard the O’Brien-prepared Misaims, the Donegal jockey pipped the pre-race favourite Keep in Touch.

He followed up on Colm Murphy’s 11/1 shot Granville Street, winning by almost a length.
On Saturday, he also saddled a winner for Murphy, taking the Bathshcack Maiden on Bottler'secret, sent off at 3/1.

As they turned for home, Browne-McMonagle made a mode to edge out 13/8 favourite Simpson’s Paradox.

Also on Saturday, Browne-McMonagle was second on Bad Desire (4/1).
