A day after breaking the Donegal record to reach the semi-finals, Fintan Dewhirst exited the European Under-20 Championships on Wednesday morning.
The Tir Chonaill AC hurdler finished seventh in his semi-final of the 400m hurdles.
The Glenties native finished in 56.64 seconds in Jerusalem.
On Tuesday morning, Dewhirst clocked a new Donegal record when finishing third in his heat at the Givat Ram Stadium.
Dewhirst, who is coached by Brian McGonagle finished his heat in 51.49 seconds. Nikola Kostić of Serbia won the heat in 51.41 seconds with Binne Brok from Netherlands second in 51.42 seconds.
Dewhirst was some time off that in a semi-final won by Anouar Bourahla from France in 51.04 seconds.
Great Britain’s Sam Lunt and Victor Blanco of Spain were second and third in the semi to advance into the final.
Last summer, also in Jerusalem, Dewhirst was a European Under-18 silver medal winner. On his way to that medal, he bagged a new national under-18 record of 51.65 over 84cm barriers.
