Cranford native Christopher Birney won the 333km event

The Donegal Wild Atlantic Way Ultra Cycle Race ran its way through the county, with some fantastic performances in one of the toughest events imaginable. 

Monaghan native Michael Flood completed the 555km category, all around the Donegal, in a time of 19 hours 57 minutes and 36 seconds. 

He came home ahead of Michael Hall on 21:45:59 and Ardara native Mark Cassidy, 22:41:53. Mervyn Kinkdale was the winner of the unsupported section in 21:38:05. Philip Culbert was second with 22:58:12 and third went to Ken Egan on 23:16:22. 

Alison Higgins won the 555 female section impressively, with 22:56:31, with the Moynalty Muppets the first two-person team to finish out, in their case in 15:22:21. Bohermeen CC topped the four-person team in 19:02:45. 

Cranford native Christopher Birney won the 333km event, clocking 10:53:15, with Errigal CC’s Shaun McDaid from Letterkenny second in 11:15:22 and Brendan Doherty came back in a time of 11:40:40. 

Tony O’Doherty was the top unsupported male, when he finished up in 12:17:21, followed in by Luke Cape, 12:55:23, and then Greg Smith, 12:56:49. 

Siobhan Coyle from Carrigart won the female 333 in 17:14:07, ahead of Sharon Ward on 17:14:07, with Eve McDermott the best unsupported in 17:52:10. Brothers in Action ended up the top two-person team.
