Ballindrait cricketer Scott Macbeth excelled on Monday as the Ireland Under-19s defeated England by 72 runs.

Macbeth top-scored at Loughborough, posting a superb 90-not-out.

Macbeth clipped the fine tally off just 48 balls, his tally including eight fours and six sixes. He was given a rapturous applause as he made his way off, helping Ireland to reach 333 for the loss of five wickets in their 50 overs.

Macbeth had an superb 117-run fifth-wicket stand with Gavin Roulston, who reached 73. Jordan Neill made 77 and Ryan Hunter reached 47 runs.

Alongside his brother Ryan, Macbeth recently won the North West Senior Cup with Brigade. Macbeth moved to Brigade having featured for St Johnston until the start of this year.

Macbeth had a big hand in two England wickets with the hosts unable to make the 334 target set by Ireland. England were skittles out for 261 runs with Macbeth catching Tom Giles off the bowl of Matthew Wilson while it was off a Macbeth toss that Finn Lutton caught Daniel Hogg.
