Three Donegal men will represent Ireland at the SUDS Open European Championships for Down Syndrome Football this week.
Letterkenny’s Daniel O’Reilly, David Crawford from Donegal Town and Gweedore man Hughie Sweeney are part of the eight-man Irish squad.
Ireland will take on Italy, Portual and Turkey in Padova, Italy.
Paul Smyth is the Irish head coach and Brendan Corish his assistant. They are are FAI Football For All Development Officers, who first began preparing the squad in 2020.
SUDS Open European Championship for Down Syndrome Football run until September 10.
Daniel, David and Hughie play with the Donegal Down Syndrome team, who train most Saturdays at the Aura Leisure Complex in Letterkenny. Tony McNamee and Danny Ferry are the lead coaches with this group.
Hughie and Daniel also play for the North West Special Olympics Club, under the direction of coaches Pat McLaughlin and Natalie McFadden.
After their Italian Job, the trio will hope for inclusion for the Trisome Games for Down Syndrome Football, which will be held next March in Antalya, Turkey.
