Ciaran Doherty and Helen McCready at the Berlin Marathon.
Burtonport siblings Ciaran Doherty and Helen McCready completed the Berlin Marathon on Sunday.
In a race that saw Ethiopia’s Tigist Assefa shatter the women’s world record, the Donegal duo turned in excellent performances.
Doherty runs with Letterkenny AC and came home in two hours, 34 minutes and 40 seconds.
McCready, who dons the Rosses AC vest, came through the iconic Brandenburg Gate in 2:57:47.
The west Donegal brother and sister duo toed the line with some of the world’s best athletes.
Kenyan sensation Eliud Kipchoge won the Berlin marathon for the fifth time when clocking 2:02:42 - shy of the 2:01:09 he set in Berlin for the world record a year ago.
Assefa won the women’s race in an astonishing 2:11:53. The 26-year-old took two minutes and 11 seconds off Brigid Kosgei’s previous best from 2019.
