Donegal quartet face Ulster Senior finals in Belfast

Raphoe BC's Ryan McDaid has his hand raised after his semi-final win.

Four Donegal boxers will feature at the Ulster Senior Championship finals tonight in Belfast.

Raphoe duo Ryan McDaid and Danny Duffy will be joined by Ballyshannon’s Alex McAleer and Letterkenny’s Cillin Boyce.

McDaid wasted no time in booking a final berth when winning his novice middleweight semi-final in the opening round on Thursday night at the Crumlin Star Sports and Social Club in Belfast.

McDaid stopped Kilkeel’s Owen Sloan and will now face Alain Duphy from Carrickmacross.

Duffy receive a bye into the open 54kgs final and he will meet Bangor Abbey man James Stevenson.

McAleer overcame St John Bosco Belfast’s Sean O’Dwyer in a novice semi-final at 63.5kgs, taking a unanimous decision from the judges. McAleer is set to face Armagh’s Shea Murphy in the final.

Boyce edged Glengormley’s Leon McMahon in a semi-final on Wednesday, claiming a 3-2 split decision, with the Letterkenny puncher now ready to clash with SJB’s Cole Taylor in the open 60kgs decider.

Ballyshannon’s Danny Byrne has been handed a walkover win in the novice 91+kgs category.

There was no joy for Ballyshannon’s Seamus Wardle, who lost his novice 67kgs quarter-final to Sacred Heart Newry man John Kelly while Raphoe’s Cathal McLaughlin was beaten by James Maguinnes from Down in an open middleweight semi.

The finals glove off at 7.30pm.
